Product B : 6 Night / 7 Day Garden Route & Western Cape Tour

Day 1 :

After a leisurely breakfast and check out, make your way to the O.R Tambo International Airport for a domestic flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrical, you will meet up with your Southern Sector Tour guide and vehicle (or a FCT representative if self-driving), for an overland journey to Knysna. Depending on your time of arrival, a short city tour of the "windy city" may also be possible. Optional stops en route can include a lunch break at Storms River Gorge bridge, the bungee jump site at Bloukrans River and the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay. You should reach Knysna in the late afternoon, just in time to board the John Benn for a sundowner cruise on the Knysna Estuary. After the cruise you can check in at your hotel in the town of Knysna with some free to refresh before dinner is enjoyed at a selected venue.

Day 2 :

          Today calls for an early(ish) start, as you make your way to the town of Oudtshoorn. Here you will visit the world-renowned Cango Caves, sandstone caves that have been explored for more then 2 km into the Swart Berg, an Ostrich Show Farm and the Cango Wildlife Ranch. In the late afternoon you will check in at your guesthouse in Oudtshoorn. Dinner will be enjoyed at the guesthouse.

Day 3 :

          After breakfast this morning, a fairly long drive awaits you en route to Cape Town. If travelling via the Robinson Pass to Mossel Bay, you can stop at the Maritime & Shell Museum, before going to Albertina where you will stop at the Aloe ferox factory. Here the staff will give you an overview on the production of skincare and other health products from the Aloe plant. You will also have the opportunity to purchase some of the quality products. At lunchtime, a brief stop will be made in the historic town of Swellendam , before finally continuing into the city of Cape Town. Check into your hotel of choice. Dinner tonight is optional.

Day 4 :

-        After a relaxing breakfast your tourist guide will collect you from your hotel and weather permitting you will ascend the majestic sandstone bastion guarding over the “Mother City” – Table Mountain , a world heritage site and now also one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature. After some free time on the Mountain you will undertake a motorized tour of the historic sections of Cape Town , visiting some of the most important sites in the city these can include the Bo-Kaap (Malay quarters), Green Market Square (with the flea-market), the Company Gardens, and some of the many museum options or local shops. The afternoon is spent at own leisure- either in the city or at the V&A Waterfront Development. Dinner is again optional.

Day 5 :

No visit to the Western Cape of South Africa can ever be complete without a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. After breakfast you will make your way to Hout Bay , a fishing village on the Atlantic Seaboard of the Cape. From the Harbour you will then take a short sea cruise to Duiker Island to view the breeding colony of Cape fur seals and othe aquatic life. On your return to the mainland there will be some time to bargain  with the curio traders on the quayside or to visit the formal shop and café. From Hout Bay you will continue along the world famous Chapman’s Peak Drive, a scenic road often compared to highway #1 in the USA. By midday you will reach the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve to view Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope itself-the Southwestern most tip of Africa. A short drive will bring you to Simon’s Town, a formal British Naval Base where a seafood lunch is enjoyed. The rest of the afternoon is flexible. You can either visit the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens for a wonderful walk in this floral wonderland, or you can visit the Groot Constantia Wine Estate, cradle of the South African wine industry , even if wine tasting is not your liking, the historic buildings are well worth a visit in the late afternoon you will be returned to your hotel. Dinner will again be optional.

Overnight in Cape Town

Day 6 :

-        The full day will be spent in the Cape Winelands, including the towns of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch- the 3 oldest towns in the country after Cape Town. The day will start with a special cellar tour at the KWV, largest wine company in South Africa. A tasting of selected products (wine, fortified wine and brandy) will also be included. From Paarl , short drive will bring you to Franschhoek-the so-called French corner of SA. You will view the town (maybe on foot) , the Huguenot Memorial and then enjoy lunch at a cozy restaurant in either Franschhoek Pass of in Helshoogte Pass. After lunch, you will make your way to Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa. Here you can undertake a walking tour of the historic centre, and also enjoy some free time to browse through some of the local shops. By mid-afternoon you will make your way to a selected wine estate, for a late afternoon tasting of selected wines. You will be returned to your hotel in the early evening, for an evening to be spent at own leisure as you prepare for your morning departure.

Overnight Cape Town

Day 7 :

-       After a leisurely breakfast depending on the time of your flight, it may be possible to visit the V&A Waterfront for some last minute shopping, or even go up Table Mountain, if this had not been possible earlier in the week. Finally today you will be dropped off at Cape Town International Airport for your return flight Johannesburg or directly to your International destination.
